I have a mature little leaf linden, Tilia cordata. I’m not entirely sure what phenophase is happening. It looks like there are fruit and new buds.
It’s a little hard to see in the pictures.
The fruit is starting to drop, but I’m not sure if it’s ripe.
How should this be reported?
Looking at our fruit definition for this species, it states - For Tilia cordata, the fruit is small and nut-like and changes from green to brown or gray-brown.
For ripe fruits, the definition states - a fruit is considered ripe when it has turned brown or gray-brown.
From what I can tell from your photos, it does appear to be fruits and ripe fruits.
And that may be new buds on the ends of the branches as well. Those could be buds that will remain on the tree over winter and start to expand in when things get warmer again next year. It will be good to watch and see what happens!
